"I have participated in Irreecha for the previous nine years," mentioned twenty-five-year-old one attendee.

Men, women, the older generation and the young all join in, adorned in attention-grabbing clothes and accessories.
They sing, dance, tell tales and arrange freshly cut green plants and flowers in liquid - denoting existence, renewal and aspiration.
Global Participation
Irreecha brings in participants from throughout the country, visitors come from around the world.
"I came the previous year - it was so good, so beautiful, I brought along my kids with me now," expressed one visitor, hailing from abroad.
"It is amazing. All people wants to say hello, all attendees shows warmth and says welcome."
Festival Timeline
The opening day of the event occurred on the weekend in the main city. On the following day, celebrants travelled to a provincial location, a community near the urban center.
While this celebration has its origins in indigenous faith systems, it is now observed by the majority of Oromos, irrespective of their faith.
Contemporary Changes
In the last ten years, the number of people joining the celebration has increased dramatically. This is in part thanks to the growth of digital platforms, where numerous youth capture their outfits, traditional dances and singing during the celebration.
